Soyuz T-5 spacecraft (foreground) docked with Salyut 7 manned space
station, as photographed in orbit by Soyuz T-6. Salyut 7 was placed in Earth orbit on
April 19, 1982; Soyuz T-5, carrying the primary Salyut 7 two-man crew, was launched 28
days later on May 13. Docking took place on May 14. Soyuz T-6, launched on June 24,
carried three more cosmonauts to the orbiting station, where they performed experiments
with members of the primary crew for eight days. After a record 211 days in space, the
primary crew returned to Earth on December 10.
