Beef with Hot Red Peppers (Sambal gadang)

2 pounds beef stew meat
3 tbs. ground hot red peppers
1/2 cup tamarind juice or lemon juice
1 tsp. turmeric
1 tbs. paprika
1 medium size onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic chopped
2 cups water
1tsp. shrimp paste

Wash the beef and drain. Mix all ingredients with the meat, add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes, or until meat is tender. Can be served hot or cold and can be kept refrigerated for several days.
